Broadgreen International School is a
specialist Technology College and receives extra funding for
Mathematics, Science, Design & Technology and ICT. This
allows us to follow a rolling programme of investment that
ensures we stay at the cutting edge of technology. Our
excellent facilities and the way our staff and students use
technology have enabled a more personalised and independent
approach to learning and teaching.
In 2009 we were the recipients of the prestigious Becta national Best whole school use of ICT award and attained re-designation as an ICT Mark consultant school. We are also an Advocate school for online reporting and parental engagement. In July 2010 we were redesignated as a specialist technology college for another three years.
The nine computer suites, nine mobile laptop trolleys and numerous small suites of PCs in subject areas complements the digital projectors and multimedia network access that exists in all teaching rooms to ensure technology is available when and where it is required and enhances the learning experience for all our students. All students and parents are issued with email addresses, usernames and passwords that allow access to the school network online anywhere and at anytime using the virtual learning environment. This allows parents, pupils and school staff to have much more meaningful dialogue about the student's progress.
The Design and Technology centre consists of fully equipped food, textile and multi-material rooms with computers, interactive whiteboards and projectors installed. The centre also has its own dedicated computer suite with twenty-five flat screen PCs for teaching graphic design as well as allowing students to carry out research.
The fully refurbished Science facility is state of the art and provides all the modern equipment necessary to follow the many courses available. Teachers regularly use a visualiser and or digital cameras when conducting experiments and the video editing PC enables experiments and lessons to be recorded and students to access them online.
The Mathematics department use interactive whiteboards and handheld devices very successfully. Mathematics software is available to students on the department laptops and at home and voting pods and Nintendo DS lites are used to motivate students and improve progress.
At Broadgreen we are very aware that although our students have access to all these wonderful facilities in school they may not have the same access at home. Our Sunshine e-learning foundation, donations from parents, staff and business, and other schemes enable us to provide computer access to all our families.
