Music

Recent research has suggested that music instruction can have a positive effect on the functioning of the brain in young people and can offer other far-reaching educational and developmental benefits. These results deserve our attention, but the most basic reason for studying music is that music is intrinsically worthwhile. It is valuable in itself. It is important.

Music is taken one period a week at KS3 and 2/3  Periods a week at KS4 with 4 periods at KS5.

The Department offers a wide range of extra curricular music support through extra curricular music lessons and after school activities:

Other instruments that are available to play at Broadgreen:

Woodwind - Flute, Clarinet, Oboe, Saxophone

Brass - Trumpet, Horn, Trombone, Tuba

Guitars

Drums

Strings - Violin, Viola, Cello & Double Bass

There is a school orchestra who meet on a Monday after school and a school choir who meet on a Tuesday after school. Both these groups perform regularly and contribute to the ethos and community work of the school.  There is also a music technology group and an arts award support group available after school for pupils.

Music has close links with other departments in the school running courses such as Performing Arts and helping produce big productions annually.
