Outdoor Education - KS4

Begun eight years ago after the success of the Duke of Edinburgh Award in school, the BTEC in Sport (Outdoor Education) is a highly popular course that gives active pupils the opportunity to study a vocational course in sport that doesn’t involve the typical UK sports like football and rugby. Outdoor Pursuits is one of the fastest growing industries in this country and there are many job opportunities available. This course perfectly prepares the students for a career in outdoor education.

The BTEC is currently 75% assignment based, with one unit externally assessed by an online exam, and involves participation in outdoor activities. The pupils are taken to Awesome Walls for indoor climbing, Mersey Watersports Centre for canoeing/kayaking and to various locations for orienteering. Future plans for this course include mountain biking in Delamere Forest and other locations.

Places are limited so any pupils keen to take part need to get talking to Mr Cochlin in Technology to express an interest. One prerequisite is the ability to swim 50m. Good Luck!
